February 28, 2019The Nevada Department ofAgriculture (NDA), is offering a media tour of the Division of Consumer
Equitability’s laboratories on Tuesday, March 5 at 11 a.m. to celebrate
National Weights and Measures Week. The week is observed March 1-7. National Weights and Measures Week is recognized by
the National Conferenceon Weights and Measures (NCWM) in commemoration of President John
Adams’s signing of the first U.S. weights and measures law in 1799.
Here in Nevada, the Consumer Equitability team protects
both businesses and consumers, ensuring items sold by weight or quantity are
being measured and charged appropriately. Program staff test scales, meters, gas pumps and other measurement devices based on National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) regulations. This ensures the
devices are functioning properly and meet the uniform NIST standards for
devices throughout the United States.
