Basil

PURCHASE

Choose bright green leaves. Avoid dark spots and decay.

    KEEP

    If stalks are still attached, store upright in a glass of water in the refrigerator. Change water as needed. If leaves only, store between paper towels in a plastic bag in the fridge. Can be kept for up to four days.

      PREPARE

      Rinse basil under cool water prior to use.

        RECIPE

        Basil and Oregano Pesto

        2 cups fresh basil leaves

        3 tablespoons fresh oregano leaves

        2 cloves garlic

        ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

        ¼ cup walnuts

        ½ cup olive oil Salt and pepper

        1. Combine the basil, oregano, garlic, cheese and walnuts in a food processor.
        2. With the machine running, slowly add the olive oil through the filler tube.
        3. Season with salt and pepper and process to desired consistency.
        4. Store tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze.
