Applicator Trainee Registration
Applicator Trainee Requirements
The applicator trainee registration program enables new technicians employed by licensed pest control companies to conduct pesticide applications for up to 90 days while they receive training and study to pass the licensing exams. In addition to registration with the NDA, there are training requirements which must be met before applicator trainees can apply pesticides without a licensee present. The NDA has training materials, record keeping forms, and registration forms below. You can find answers to common questions in our Applicator trainee Frequently Asked Questions.
Applicator Trainees may:
- Register one time in one of the following categories: C1 - Limited Landscape, C2 - Industrial/Institutional, C6 - Weeds
- Apply general-use pesticides without a licensed operator or primary principal being physically present for up to 90 days
Pest Control Companies must:
- Register each applicator trainee with the NDA
- Provide basic pesticide application and safety information to the trainee and keep record of the training
- Provide application equipment, PPE, product labels, and site-specific training to each trainee
- Assign a supervising applicator to be immediately available to the applicator trainee by phone or other means
Training forms and resources
The training requirements for applicator trainees may be met using any training materials that are appropriate for your business, but must meet the minimum requirements listed in Section 5 of R127-23. These requirements may be met using EPA approved training materials for agricultural handlers covered by the Worker Protection Standard and reviewing the General Requirements for pesticide licensees listed in NAC 555.400.
The training requirements for applicator trainees may be met by:
- Watching any EPA approved video for agricultural pesticide handlers, available here. Additional options can be found online or here. Please note these videos were developed for agricultural handlers, certain sections including Restricted Entry Interval and posting requirements do not apply to non-agricultural applications and can be skipped.
- Reviewing the EPA developed brochure "Protect Yourself From Pesticides"
- Reviewing the General Requirements for licensees found in NAC 555.400
- Documenting the training. You may use your own record or the NDA developed record form
You must submit an Applicator Trainee Registration Application to NDA for each applicator before they apply pesticides without a licensee present. There is no fee for registration
