LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
December 05, 2025Governor Lombardo joined the Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating a new food distribution warehouse in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025. This new warehouse allows for larger storage and distribution of foods to food insecure populations and schools supporting southern Nevada.
"Nevada has long played a leading role in dispersing goods to food-insecure populations and schools," said Governor Lombardo. "This new building adds storage and distribution capacity, increases control and efficiencies, and saves taxpayer money while meeting the growing demands of our state."
This new warehouse enables the NDA to receive and store all USDA food items in one location, including cold, frozen and dry foods, and will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and staff. It also allows for the storage of additional food to meet the growing need in Nevada.
"The addition of the NDA Las Vegas Warehouse strengthens our ability to get food where it's needed most," said NDA Director J.J. Goicoechea. "It's a smart investment that directly supports the nutrition programs serving Nevada's children, families, and seniors."
The NDA manages 13 of the 16 USDA feeding and nutrition programs. Many of these nutrition programs include USDA food products delivered to the NDA to be distributed to food banks and schools, which are then dispersed to food-insecure populations and used for school meals.
Prior to the formal opening of the warehouse, the NDA opened use of the warehouse to Three Square Food Bank for the support of additional food storage needed during the federal shutdown and impacts to SNAP benefits. While SNAP is not one of the programs run by the NDA, the NDA was one of the only agency where general funds could reallocate through to provide additional resources to support those Nevadans in need.
"These programs make a real difference in people's lives, helping kids focus in school, and families get through tough times," added Governor Lombardo. "This is more than a warehouse opening. This showcases efficiencies in government so tax dollars can go to work for Nevadans."
