New World Screwworm

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) prioritizes the protection of our livestock, pets, wildlife and citizens against disease threats. With the recent reemergence of New World Screwworm in Texas and New Mexico, the NDA has increased our coordination with sister agencies and encourage our producers and the public to be extra vigilant. While this is a serious pest of livestock and wildlife, this is not a food safety issue, and the food supply remains safe.

There are currently no cases of Screwworm in Nevada and the risk to animals and people remains very low. The NDA is working with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to monitor the situation and protect Nevada agriculture. Current entry requirements can be found at agri.nv.gov/Animals/Animal_Disease/Import_Requirements.
