SPARKS, Nev. -
January 25, 2024The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) is proud to announce 38 participating agencies for the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for 2024. CACFP provides crucial funding for nutritious meals and snacks served to children and adults receiving day care.
"This program contributes to the health and well-being of Nevadans in need," said NDA Division of Food and Nutrition Administrator Patricia Hoppe, "Last year, 3.1 million meals were served through CACFP participating agencies."
Through CACFP, participating agencies are reimbursed for nutritious meals and snacks that meet USDA guidelines based on the percentage of participants who live in households with income that fall within three different income categories (free, reduced-price and above scale).
Foster
children or children who are members of a household receiving Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families,
Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR), Head Start eligible
participants, At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program participants and Emergency
Shelter for Homeless Children all automatically meet the income guidelines for
the free meal category. Participating adults in daycare who are members of SNAP
households, Supplemental Security Income, FDPIR or Medicaid recipients also
automatically meet the guidelines for the free meal category.
Child and
adult care centers, family or group day care homes, before and after-school
programs, emergency shelters, and Head Start programs are eligible to
participate in the program. Learn more about how to become a future CACFP
participating agency by contacting the NDA at fnd@agri.nv.gov.
CACFP is
an equal opportunity provider. Centers that participate in the CACFP do not
discriminate against any child or adult because of race, color, national
origin, sex, age or disability.
