Information about the Collection Straight from
the Entomologist
The entomology collection is the largest insect collection in the state. It is comprised of over 250,000 specimens, mostly from Nevada. The collection was first started in 1958 by the departments first entomologist Robert C. Bechtel. The collection has received donations from University of Nevada (Reno), Dr. Ira LaRivers and Peter Ting. The collection is a working
reference collection and not open to the public. Those wishing to see the collection should contact the entomologist. Professional loans are made regularly and anyone wishing to borrow specimens should also contact the entomologist.
