NEVADA ANIMAL HEALTH ENTRY  REQUIREMENTS--ABBREVIATED

Cattle & Bison, Equidae, Sheep, Goats, Swine, Rodeo Livestock, Poultry& Game Birds
Ratites
, Llamas, Exotic & Wildlife, Fox, Skunks & Raccoons, Dogs, Cats, & Ferrets 

All ANIMALS:  Require a certificate of veterinary inspection issued within the last thirty (30) days.  Prior entry permit required on cattle, bison, swine, sheep, goats and Mexican steers.  Health documents must accompany each animal transport.  Call 775- 688-1180, ext 230 for entry permits or other information from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST on weekdays.  Permit office is closed weekends and on all holidays.

Cattle & Bison

CATTLE & BISON:  All females must be official brucellosis calfhood vaccinates with legible ear tattoo.  Animals originating from brucellosis certified free herds or states are exempt from test requirements. Tests must be conducted at official State/Federal Laboratories.  

Tuberculosis special requirements:

Ø       All dairy breeding cattle 6 month of age and older must have a TB test within the past 60 days of entry regardless of state of origin. Dairy cattle from an accredited-free herd are exempt from TB testing.  No TB test required for beef cattle originating from free states.

Ø       Cattle originating from Modified Accredited Advanced states:

o        All beef breeding cattle 24 months and older must have a TB test within 60 days of entry.

o        Intact feeder heifers 24 months of age and older must be TB tested within 60 days of entry.

o        Feeder beef cattle not required to have individual ID until mandated by UDSA.

o        Cattle for exhibition must have a TB test within 60 days of entry.

o        Pasture to Pasture permits require herd TB test within the first 12 months of permit issuance and every 36 months thereafter.

o        TB test requirements waved for cattle transported from California Sierra Front directly to the Fallon sale yards for “Sale for Slaughter Only” if annotated on the brand certificate.

Ø       Cattle originating from Modified Accredited States:

o        All dairy and beef cattle 6 month of age and older must have a TB test within 30 of entry. 

o        Retested at 90 to 120 days after entry.

o        Retested again at 180 to 210 day of entry.

o        The cattle will be placed under hold order until all testing requirements have been met.

Ø       Mexican Origin steers or spayed heifers:

o        TB test within the past 12 months of entry.

o        Test documents must be faxed to the State Veterinarian’s Office (775-688-1178) prior to issuance of entry permit.

Equidae

EQUIDAE: Coggins test within 6 months and a current certificate of veterinary inspection. No entry permit required.

Sheep

SHEEP:

Each sheep shall be:

Ø       Accompanied by an entry permit;

Ø       Individually identified using official scrapie identification; and

Ø       Specified on a health certificate that includes:

  • A statement by the issuing veterinarian that the sheep is not exhibiting clinical signs associated with scrapie at the time of examination;

  • A statement by the owner verifying that the sheep is not a scrapie-positive animal, suspect animal, high-risk animal or exposed animal and that the sheep did not originate from an infected flock, source flock, exposed flock or noncompliant flock;

  • For a breeding animal, the flock of birth of the sheep; and

  • A unique identifying number for the sheep that is consistent with official scrapie identification.

In addition to the previously mentioned requirements, all breeding rams that are 6 months of age or older are tested for Brucella ovis on the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test and react negatively to that test within 30 days before entry into this State.

Goats - hidden text

GOATS:

Each goat shall be:

Ø       Accompanied by an entry permit;

Ø       Individually identified using official scrapie identification; and

Ø       Specified on a health certificate that includes:

  • A statement by the issuing veterinarian that the goat is not exhibiting clinical signs associated with scrapie at the time of examination;

  • A statement signed by the owner certifying that the goat is not a scrapie-positive animal, suspect animal, high-risk animal or exposed animal and that the goat did not originate from an infected flock, source flock, exposed flock or noncompliant flock; and

  • A unique identifying number for the goat that is consistent with official scrapie identification.

In addition to the previously mentioned requirements, a goat imported into Nevada for dairy or breeding purposes must have reacted negatively to tests for tuberculosis and brucellosis within the 30 days before the date of entry.

Swine - hidden text

SWINE: Certificate of veterinary inspection and entry permit.  Negative brucellosis and pseudorabies test within 30 days of entry or validated and qualified herd/state status required on all swine 6 months of age and older or 180 lbs or more.  Additionally, all swine traveling interstate shall be identified with an official USDA metal eartag.  Swine legally registered with an association may substitute an ear tattoo or ear notch for the metal eartag.  Pseudorabies vaccinates denied entry.

Rodeo - hidden text

RODEO LIVESTOCK:  Certificate of veterinary Inspection and an entry permit.  Brucellosis test for cattle and bison originating from free states is waived. 

Ø       Rodeo stock 24 months of age originating from Modified Accredited Advanced states require an annual TB test.

Ø       Mexican origin rodeo stock must have a TB test within 12 month prior to entry.

Ø        Annual TB retest required. 

Ø       Test documents must accompany certificate of veterinary inspection and a copy must remain with cattle at all times.

Ø       Test documents must be faxed to State Veterinarian’s Office (775-688-1178) before permit is issued.

Poultry - hidden text

POULTRY, GAME BIRDS & HATCHING EGGS: Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or a VS Form 9-3.  Poultry and game birds must originate from flocks participating in the National Poultry or Turkey Improvement Plans and so annotated on the certificate.

EXOTIC & WILDLIFE:  Call the Nevada Department of Agriculture for health entry requirements: (775 688-1180, extension 230) and the Nevada Department of Wildlife (775 688-1500) for importation permit requirements.
