COLLECTION TECHNIQUE (for dermatophytes): First CLEAN the area well with
alcohol, allow to dry, then collect sample, plucking hair and scraping the
edge of lesion; Samples submitted without first disinfecting the area will
usually be overgrown by contaminants, resulting in a false negative
culture.
