PASTEURELLOSIS
Pasteurellosis Study in Nevada’s Domestic and Bighorn Sheep Populations
Underway
The Animal Disease & Food Safety Laboratory
personnel are working with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, UNR and
cooperating range-sheep producers in a study to determine the level of
Pasturella haemolytica. present in the respiratory tract of
both domestic and bighorn sheep and the relationship between them, if any
genetically. This is the first year of a three-year study. To date,
bighorn flocks in three southern and central and Northern Nevada locations
and six large commercial sheep operations in the northern part of the
State have been sampled. When the research is completed, it should result
in a sound, scientific evaluation of the epidemiology of P haemolytica
in bighorn and domestic sheep.
